Personal Blog
I travel. Not alot, and certainly not like I used to 'back in the day' when I averaged 250,000 - 300,000 miles a year, but I travel. My main trip is a monthly (roughly) trip from my home in North Carolina out to the Bay Area in California to 'visit' my job. 3 years ago I escaped the vortex of Silicon Valley and, due to the exceptional good graces of my boss, was able to take my California-based job with me to North Carolina. With the understanding that I would return once a month to interact with the rest of the team.
So I do that. I say 'roughly' because there are some stretches where I don't make it out for 6 weeks, there have been a couple of 2 - 3 month stretches (due to extenuating circumstances). But in general it's once a month. For a week. And it's exhausting. The time change causes me to be in the lab by 7:00 am (at the latest, sometimes as early as 5:00 am) and I end up staying until 6:00 pm or so. That's a long day. And then I go back to wherever I'm staying and, typically, work more. I end up exhausted. I work as many hours a day when I'm at home but, because I work from home, and I'm in my own home, I end up feeling it less.
My week out here is half over, and I'm ready to go home. I always am.
This is going to serve as my personal blog space. I know, I could do a wordpress blog, or a blogger blog, or whatever. And I probably should. But (for now) I'm not going to. Ok? Ok.
I can't promise it'll be exciting, and I can't promise that I'll post a lot (I am kind of busy), but I'll do my best to post, be interesting, and be timely.
